Airways Aviation has designed a unique diploma programme which gives students the experience of two significant training locations. Initially pilot training takes place at our picturesque Caloundra base which is situated one hour north of Brisbane on the Sunshine Coast. Our pilot training began at our Caloundra base over 30 years ago where we have proudly established ourselves as one of the leading flight schools in the region. As an aviation training expert, Tony Powell our Chief Flying Instructor (fixed wing) considers Caloundra Airport to be one of the best in Australia for student pilots in this important initial phase.

Students commence their training at our Caloundra base from Week 1 – Week 26 progressing to solo, recreational pilot licence and finally private pilot licence. Then from Week 27 onwards, students will complete their commercial pilot licence phase, instrument and advanced training courses at our Gold Coast facility in Coolangatta.

Why two locations to complete your Diploma?

Initial training phase at the Caloundra base offers many advantages to the student pilot and some of these include:

  1. An uncontrolled airspace which is congestion free with no delays.
  2. An excellent circuit training area and runways situated just metres from the flight school. Students obtain the maximum benefit from every hour of their flight training.
  3. A steady progression rate to solo standard and beyond as the syllabus moves forward in the scheduled time frame undisturbed by busy flight traffic.
  4. Controlled airspace in just a 5 minute flight when required.
  5. Two runways which is an advantage if there are crosswinds.

Commercial training phase at the Gold Coast base offers many advantages to the student pilot and some of these include:

  1. A busy domestic and international airport which offers a challenging flight environment for student pilots.
  2. Runways situated just metres from the flight school.
  3. Radio exposure maximised whilst training in the sixth busiest airport in Australia.
  4. Class C Airport all flights are subject to ATC clearance.
  5. Circuit training areas located a short distance from the airport.
